Christopher Fletcher, the highly regarded music director of Plymouth Philharmonic Choir, has been appointed to take over direction of the Stanborough Chorus from January 1, following the retirement of founder Rosemary Cole. Christopher also directs the Chagford Singers and is organist and director of music at Plymouth RC Cathedral.
During Christopher's 15 years as conductor of Plymouth Philharmonic Choir it has come to be recognised as one of the best in the country. Recent acclaimed performances include The Armed Man and Carmina Burana with the Combined Orchestra of the Royal Maries, and David Fanshaw's African Sanctus.
His musical versatility has been experienced by a number of other choirs and societies in Devon, including the South Devon Choir, the Torquay, Paignton and Totnes Operatic Societies and Lupridge Singers. Annually for the last 12 years, Christopher has rehearsed and conducted a charity concert at Buckfast Abbey which attracts around 200 choral singers. Christopher says he looks forward to taking over our choir in the new year.
Rehearsals at Kingsbridge Methodist Church will now be held on Mondays, 7.30 - 9.30 pm from January 10. Anyone interested in joining the Stanborough Chorus is asked to contact Chris Gunning on 01752 895102 or Tom Gilkes on 01548 560973.

Rosemary Cole's final rehearsal
With the Buckfast Abbey Christmas Service, and Carols for All yet to come to complete the season's concerts the choir met for rehearsal which would be the final one for Rosemary Cole, the outgoing Director of Music. The pictures show the choir at practice and a presentation made to Rosemary by our Chairman, Tom Gilkes. Tom quite rightly showered much praise on Rosemary's career as the Chorus' MD and then presented her with a gift from the choir. There wan't a dry eye in the place! We wish Rosemary every enjoyment in her 'retirement' and her ongoing with work with the Tamar Valley MVC.
